Musical Geometry
This week in design we worked with Musical geometry and relationships between music and artistic inspiration. I chose the song "I don't know my name" by grace VanderWall. I chose this song because of its powerful message of self-discovery and challenges that we all encounter at any given point in our lives. There is one line in particular that spoke to me, "I am lost...Trying to get found in an ocean of people" To me this song represents how we fill our displeasures with material objects until we finally find what our real passions are. Until that moment we are just a vacant room waiting to be filled with creativity. Below are the lyrics to "I Don't Know My Name" by Grace VanderWaal. I have highlighted the sections I have drawn inspiration from
I Don't Know My Name
Writer - Grace VanderWaal
I don't know my name I don't play by the rules of the game So you say I'm just trying Just trying
So I heard you are my sister's friend You get along quite nicely You ask me why I cut my hair And changed myself completely
I am lost... Trying to get found In an ocean of people Please don’t ask me any questions You won’t get a valid answer I’ll just say that
I don't know my name I don't play by the rules of the game So you say I'm just trying Just trying
I went from bland and popular to joining the marching band I made the closest friends I'll ever have in my lifetime
I am lost... Trying to get found In an ocean of people
I now know my name! I don't play by the rules of the game So you say, I'm not trying But I'm trying To find my way
Grace took audiences by surprise when she preformed on America's Got Talent at the young age of only 12 years old. Instantly she became a household name. Before she had finished 7th grade he had more than 50 Million youtube views.

My project:
Vacant By Simon Swofford created with photoshop
I stuck with the theme that we are all trying to find our identity. The boy in the photo is faceless with a neon sign with the lettering "Vacant" I chose this concept to show that we are all empty until we find who we truly are. I added the white drips to add aesthetically and add dimension. I relate this heavily to the line " I don't know my name" It makes you think about what goes into a name.
